Mehdi Zafari is pursuing a Doctorate in Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.
Goals and Aspirations: After completing my Ph.D., my primary goal is to join an advanced R&D division within a leading wireless technology company to develop next-generation (6G) networks. I aim to translate my research on ISAC and distributed MIMO into practical architectures, algorithms, and prototypes that improve coverage, reliability, and environmental awareness while remaining scalable and cost-efficient. In the near term, I plan to contribute to proof-of-concept testbeds and field trials that bridge research and real deployment requirements. A key objective for me is to also actively engage with global standardization organizations, such as 3GPP, ITU, Next G Alliance, and IEEE, to help define the protocols and specifications that will govern future wireless intelligence. Simultaneously, I plan to serve as a bridge between industry and academia by fostering industry-university partnerships, teaching specialized courses, mentoring students through joint projects and internships, and helping grow the talent pipeline that will sustain innovation in telecommunications.
