The Wireless History Foundation inducted four new members into the Wireless Hall of Fame on Oct 10 at the US Grant Hotel in San Diego. Following a reception and dinner, the awards were presented in front of a full house. Arnold Pohs was inducted, posthumously, in the Service Provider category. Arnold’s wife Connie, son Glenn, and daughter Wendi accepted the award on his behalf. Clayton Niles accepted the Hall of Fame award in the Pioneer Category. Bob Marino received the award in the Industry Associate Category, and Nick Kauser accepted the Hall of Fame award in the Technology Category. It was great to have colleagues, friends and family of these Hall of Fame inductees there to show support and appreciation for what the inductees have contributed to wireless history.
Another highlight of the evening was having several Hall of Fame members in the audience. Dr. Irwin Jacobs, co-founder of Qualcomm, gave remarks as Chairman of the evening’s event. He’s a Wireless Hall of Fame member himself, having been inducted in 2000. Other Wireless Hall of Fame members in attendance were Craig McCaw, John Stanton, Brian Fontes, Jai Bhagat, Morgan O’Brien, Arlene Harris, Marty Cooper, Ray Trott, and Tom Wheeler.
The sponsors really came out in support of this event. It was a great to have up and coming innovators and experienced veterans in the industry all in the same room. All in all, it was an event that brought a wide variety of industry representatives together, to not only support those inducted in to the Wireless Hall of Fame, but also to celebrate all things wireless.
